The plastic base is set up with a space where the band fits in between the driving pin and the push block which is notched to allow the band pin to be pushed out of the link. After reading the other reviews about broken pins, I was careful to keep even pressure on the spring-loaded platform to avoid bending the pusher-pin, and had no trouble at all.
