With the 1.5 crop factor, it's perfect for portraits, and I don't have to get too close to my victim (subject/model). I also compliment this with the 85mm 1.8 for portraits. Of course, your feet/legs have to work for the composition, but this puppy will deliver sharp images! Rating: - Fast and sharp lensAfter using only Zoom lenses, going to a prime its like magic. You loose the zoom, so you have to start moving (step back, step forward) but the aperture of this lenses its great, low-light shots are now possible without an intrusive flash. Lens have good build quality and sharpness, and are a great and cheap option, but note; this 50mm will become 75mm on digital DX format cameras. But after i got it the picture came out great and professional. Had a little trouble working with it in low light but i was told i need to bump up the iso settings. Other than that very good lens and i missed out on the 5 year warranty....
