But Botti brings more care and nuance to his work than that faux category implies, and this seductive collection underlines his deeper intent in its smoky title song, a collaboration with Paul Buchanan's Scottish neo-pop band, The Blue Nile, that is sufficient excuse for entry: Buchanan's fevered yet restrained vocals answer Botti's cool, Miles-wide horn lines in a classic late-night reverie that is the set's standout, but Botti's own wordless pieces sustain the album's suave, finely crafted mood. "Regroovable" with its perky beat and Botti's insistently cheerful horn sliding over Shawn Pelton's drums is the most instantly accessible. "Until Now" also offers a similar midtempo setting, albeit a bit more in moody territory that offers a pretty Botti melody and keyboard atmospherics. This is the best, in my opinion. Magical playing by Chris, and wonderful vocals by Paul Buchanan and Jonatha Brooke. This CD has a lovely melancholy that washes over you like a soothing blanket.
