As a composer, Botti reaches real, heartfelt depth. The pieces on First Wish, Midnight..., and Slowing Down the World are an interesting and original blend of rockish ballads, mellow funk, and blues-ish soul that no other modern trumpet player is even close to accomplishing. The occasional background guitars are vaguely reminiscint of U2's guitar work, yet completely original, and the piano is very well mixed with Botti's horn playing. ... I bought First Wish based on the review regarding the person waiting in his car for over an hour to see who the artist was playing on the radio. I was not disappointed. I love track 2, On the Night Ride, track 4, Like I Do Now, and track 6, Cubism. The whole CD is fantastic.
